The two perform a dyadic acrobatic maneuver around the empty space where freedom, imagination, and possibility could exist in textual, temporal, and interpersonal relationships. Whereas The Impossible, Patience was serious play around nihilism and language, How to Live is a surreal anti-thesis “in the form of paradoxes, defending precisely the claims that seem most impossible or disagreeable to maintain."
